Beat It! has been designed by Diabetes Australia-NSW accredited exercise physiologists, credentialed diabetes educators and accredited practicing dietitians in a “train the trainer” concept for Accredited Personal Trainers.
Beat It! has been designed to give them the knowledge and skills to provide a twice a week, 12-week, group-based exercise program which is built around the proven benefits of aerobic and resistance training.
Beat It! Is a moderate intensity graded exercise program. People wishing to participate require medical clearance before commencing the sessions. It is not suitable for people with severe complications.
Fitness Diabetes Beat It! Instructors have undertaken the approved comprehensive training program that provided education about diabetes, associated complications and risk factors (including hypoglycaemia and heart disease), the impact of exercise on complications and the impact of exercise in the prevention and management of diabetes. This included guidelines and recommendations for developing exercise resistance and cardiovascular training for people with, or at risk of, type-2 diabetes.
Fitness Diabetes trainers have also been instructed in the legal and ethical responsibilities of training a person with a chronic illness, how to motivate a person with diabetes to keep active outside of training, suggested graded exercise and weight programs and above all, knowing when to refer people back to their doctor.
Program : 12 weeks program 2 sessions per week.
Venue : Outdoor group or one on one sessions at various venues on the Northern Beaches and North Shore.
Investment : $25 per session in a group format or $60 per session on a one to one basis.
